As a Lead Teacher for iEARN and a primary classroom teacher at Sunnyside School, the opportunity to mentor children in this project led to designing an iEARN Schools Outfitting Schools curriculum for 1st and 2nd graders in our classroom to develop their literacy, communication, math, social studies, visual arts, and new technologies skills. The curriculum was built using the Harvard University Teaching for Understanding pedagogical framework. The implementation of the project included supportive leadership from our school Principal Rosalie Watters and from our Student Council, led by Teacher Gary Johnson, who joined the class in a school and community-wide effort of successfully raising $2,300 for school supplies in Afghanistan.
