The goal of this program is to expand and develop a model of Internet-based HIV/AIDS education with U.S. and African schools and support a dynamic and meaningful HIV/AIDS education dialogue among U.S. and African educators and students and their peers worldwide. This project was initiated by the Alliance For Global Learning, a coalition of partner organizations, iEARN, Schools Online, and World Links, with financial support from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. Additional partners in this project were the United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation and Metro TeenAIDS, which facilitated the participation of Washington, DC schools in this project. Expected
Outcomes 1) Development of an adaptable and practical set of classroom materials, including lesson plans, CD-ROMs, print and Web-based publications, artwork and other products generated by participants; 2) Greater awareness of HIV/AIDS and other related health care issues in the participating schools, parents, and those in the community partnering with the school for the community action projects; and 3) Cultural exchanges, both physical and virtual, between teachers and students in Africa and the U.S. |
