7th Annual I*EARN Conference & 4th Annual Youth Summit

Beijing, China - July 2000

The 7th Annual I*EARN Conference and 4th Annual I*EARN Youth Summit were held from July 10-16, 2000 in Beijing, China. This was the first time that the annual I*EARN conference was held on the Asian continent. The I*EARN-CHINA Team welcomed almost 500 delegates from 62 countries to the capital of the Middle Kingdom. Please visit the conference photo gallery.

The Conference was opened by the Vice-Mayor of Beijing. We were very pleased to have Dr. Chang-Lin Tien, former Chancellor of the University of California-Berkeley present one of the morning keynote presentations. Another scheduled keynote presentation was by Edwin Judd, UNICEF Area Representative for China and Mongolia. Mr. Judd's presentation is available on the WWW: http://www.iearn.org/judd.html

The 7th Annual I*EARN Conference had a beneficial impact on Chinese education in general. China has a fifth of the world's population and through I*EARN we brought the world outside to the largest population of youth in the world. With a number of Chinese educators attending our Beijing conference, I*EARN became the model for not only how to utilize modern technology in education, but also how to harness the hearts and spirits of youth to make this world a better place. At the completion of the conference, the 2001 I*EARN Conference site in Cape Town, South Africa was presented by Penny Busetto, Delegate from I*EARN-South Africa.
