The CIVICS
Teachersą Training was organized in collaboration with the US-Consulate General-Karachi.
Ms. Farah S. Kamal the iEARN Country Coordinator facilitated the pre-training,
training and the post training activities. The three-day training programme
involved 23 teachers from 13 different K-12 and post secondary educational
institutions from April 2-4, 2002. Participating teachers primarily serve
the educational needs of students coming from low and middle class social
background of the society.
Although eleven of the thirteen schools have access to computers and internet
in their schools for their students, none of the schools had ever utilized
email or Internet base collaborative projects for teaching and learning activities.
All of the schools and participants expressed their desire to acquire skills
and opportunities to integrate ICP in their curricula. The training helped
change the teacher's perception of teaching in general and the use of technology
for presenting meaningful learning experiences to students. One teacher wrote,
"
this workshop changed my views. I learnt that
a teacher can
explore many things to make her classrooms more creative. Today as teachers
we have to rush with our syllabus
and work according to our curriculum
and prepare results. We donąt give much priority to the creative classroom
teaching. Here I found iEARN as a really good friend which will help me out
to enhance my teaching skills and to enrich my teaching content."![]()
