The CIVICS workshop in Cairo, Egpyt drew more than 50 teachers from 28 schools. Presentations and training were carried out by seasoned local iEARN teamleaders-- Sherif Abou Sena, El Gohary H. El Gohary, Rafaat Hassan and Ghada El Degwi-- who had recently attended the iEARN annual conference in Moscow.

The workshop was supported by the U.S. Embassy Regional English Language Office and received generous support from the Ministry of Education, which finally provided day in the computer labs and training facilities at the new Mubarak Education City complex and lunch. Presentations by outside local Egyptian and American trainers were also excellent. In a session on project assessment, participants worked together to create a rubric (set of criteria) for evaluating iEARN projects.

The workshop had excellent press coverage and iEARN students led participants through some experiential activities they learned in a local Youth Leadership Initiative training. The iEARN Egypt Website soon make available the handouts and material used in this workshop and make them available to be used or referred to by others organizing similar events.
