Latvia
Working with
the Open Society Institute and the Soros Foundation since 1995,
iEARN has established an iEARN-Latvia Center in Latvia, which
is based in Riga. Latvian schools participate actively in both
national and international projects. iEARN-Latvia works closely
with the Ministry of Education to integrate project work into
the curriculum.
Lithuania
Working
with the Open Society Institute and the Soros Foundation, since
1995
iEARN has established an iEARN
Center in Lithuania, involving 20 schools in Vilnius, Kaunas
and other cities. Lithuanian students and teachers are active
in many international projects. Lithuania also hosts the current
iEARN Coordinator for Central and Eastern Europe.
Macedonia
iEARN
in Macedonia (IMOR “Interactivna mreza za obrazovanie
i resursi”)
is an independent NGO. On-line programs were created in 1998.
Training workshops on local and national level have been held
to prepare teachers for on-line project work. iEARN-Macedonia
hosted the 1999 Second Balkan Conference. It has
a national presence, permanently networking and partnering
with other governmental
organisation and NGOs. As a result, IMOR is a member of national
and international formal networks:
UNESCO’s InfoYouth,
It's Enough!, Balkan Youth Network (leading organization). Also,
IMOR is one of the founders of – “Sega” (“Now”).
Invited and hired by other national and/or international organisations
to organize and provide training in the frame of
their project
activities. iEARN-Macedonia and its teachers have received numerous
international awards for classroom project work. IMOR works in
close cooperation with World Computer Exchange - WCE and USAID.
A container of computers was secured in autumn 2005
for Macedonian education.
Moldova
Teachers and
students in Moldova started working on iEARN projects in 1999,
in part through an iEARN project to provide professional development
workshops which were financially supported by the U.S. State Department.
Netherlands
The
iEARN -Netherlands Centre has been active since 1990 and finds
its grass-roots level at the Onderwijs Computer Centrum ABC
in Amsterdam. Ten years later, June 2000, the iEARN-Netherland foundation
was officially established and is now rapidly expanding it's
activities in order to include schools of all grade levels.
iEARN-Netherlands works closely with Ministry of Education
and Kennisnet, our national
educational portal. iEARN-Netherlands co-operates with the
International Institute for Communications and Development
(IICD) in The Hague and
SchoolNet Africa (SNA)
on the "Global
Teenagers Project," enabling
students from 34 countries to work in rich and well facilitated
Learning Circles. From July 3 – 7 2006 iEARN-Netherlands
organises the 13th iEARN World Conference in Enschede, Netherlands.

Poland
Working with
the Open Society Institute and the Soros Foundation since 1995,
iEARN has established an iEARN
Center in Warsaw, Poland, within the "Internet for Schools"
initiative, involving hundreds of schools throughout the country
Portugal
iEARN involves
schools in Lisbon, as well as other cities in Portugal. These
schools have created a Portuguese language discussion group in
iEARN for interaction with schools in Brazil and Mozambique. In
addition, a German-language school in Faro is very active in iEARN.
Romania
- 
Working with
the Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation), iEARN created iEARN-Romania
in 1995, involving many schools in Dej, Calarasi, Eforie Sud and
other cities. Teachers and students are some of the most active
in the iEARN network and are engaged in many projects.
Russia
Russia was
one of the founding members of iEARN. Schools in Moscow and
New York State first established educational links
in 1988. Participating iEARN schools are in the Moscow area,
St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, as well as elsewhere in the country.
Russian schools have engaged in many iEARN projects since 1990.
Teachers in Russia have created an iEARN
Russia center; this
process is supported by the Assembly and Executive Council
of iEARN
International.
