Warm greetings to the government and business leaders at the IBM Governor¹s Conference from the students of Puerto Rico! We are 6, 7, and 8 grade students participating in the ³English through Cooperative Learning and Interactive Technology² Title I Proposal. This proposal is coordinated by the "From Shore to Shore" Networking Project [De Orilla a Orilla] of the University of Puerto Rico. ORILLAS is I*EARN¹s newest center. Below you will find some of our thoughts on what technology has meant to our education. We will write to you in English, our second language. ** What is the potential goal of the Internet in the education? ** The ability to communicate with other countries and states in a faster manner. The potential goal of Internet is a way of communication for two different countries to know and learn about each other. You learn to share culture interest and ideas. Learning about each other is a way of working together and putting ideas together to become one great team. To expand our traditions, costumes, language with our ³Sister Class². They will know about Puerto Rico, how we are, what we are, and know how beautiful is Puerto Rico. If we can not communicate with people personally, we can communicate them through the Internet. Be prepare for the 2000¹s years. ** How has working with technology prepared you for your future education and career? ** By enhancing my knowledge on new technology and because I want to be an architect. Because now I know to work with a computer and how to share with a group of students our ideas. This will prepare me for a future career because I have learned a lot of English which is an important language. I will be prepare in technology and I will have good opportunities. The future will be based on computers and technology and this prepare us to a best future. I learned to work in cooperative groups. Because it's modern and we are up-to-date in technology. ** Are there other ways in which your learning has been enhanced by technology? Yes, by increasing my interest in architecture. It help me to organize work very simply and understand my classes. I learned to use other type of computer than the computer I have in my home. Using the technology my grades have improved. Learning through technology improved my writing and spelling and obtain experiences with others. From the students at: Escuela Adelaida Vega in Vega Alta, Escuela Tallaboa Alta in Penuelas, and other schools participating in the ³English through Cooperative Learning and Interactive Technology² Project.
