From ACES High School: By Brian Nuefang 1. How has working with technology prepared you for your future education and career ? Technology in the classroom has been a benefit of attending ACES Alternative High School. My knowledge of computers was limited before this year. Over the course of the last eight months, my experience has broadened greatly. Not only have I learned how to use a word processor, I can now use a database, spreadsheet and graphics programs. Hyperstudio, which is a multi-media program, has allowed me to make outstanding reports using pictures and live video. It has enhanced the quality and productivity of my work along with challenging my creativity. With the ever changing, ever growing world of technology there is a great demand for people, students and employees alike to have some sort of computer background. Telecommunications is another aspect that has enhanced my learning possibilities. The Sahara to Antarctica Project is just one example of how this technology is applied. Helen and Bill Thayer are two explorers traveling from the Sahara Desert to Antarctica. Using telecommunications and an E-mail system we will follow their journey and communicate with these two modern adventurers. As we go along we will study the desert and it's many features: the people, the animals and how they all survive in the desert climate, the religious and political differences and struggles of desert peoples are all a part of this project. The opportunity to participate in this unique learning project is valuable because as we learn about the world around us we get to experience the sights and sounds first hand on computer. It's almost like having the world in the classroom to draw information from at any time.
