STUDENTS: Technology's Value to Me (r)

(written by aces@iearn.org, 03/26/1996)

From ACES High School:

1a. What is the potential role of the Internet in education?

My name is Jason Brown and I am a senior at ACES. I think the
potential role of the Internet is to give students a wider variety of learning.
For example the Internet allows you access to many different topics world wide,
also allowing you to down load pictures, newspaper articles, maps, diagrams,
books and almost an infinite number other topics. All of this information can be
accessed in almost a matter of seconds saving you trips to the library spending
long hours of flipping though books when you can scan through it in a few
minutes on the Internet. Also everything on the Internet is current and up to
date almost to the minute unlike dictionaries and most books.

1d. Are there other ways in which your learning has been enhanced by
technology?

Well if it wasn't for technology we would have a totally different
look on the world. With CD-ROM technology I am able to use whole encyclopedias
all compacted onto one cd, enabling me to access anything in that encyclopedia
in seconds. Without technology we wouldn't be able to perform interesting
science experiments, watch movies, learn to drive a car or even microwave our
food. Technology plays an Important role on just about everything we do everyday
of our lives.
