STUDENTS: Knowledge of World (r)

(written by efigueroa@iearn.org, 03/25/1996)

Hello to the government and business leaders at the IBM
Governor¹s Conference and to the other students reading this
conference. Greetings from Puerto Rico!

We are 6, 7, and 8 grade students participating in the
³English through Cooperative Learning and Interactive
Technology² Title I Proposal. This proposal is coordinated
by the "From Shore to Shore" Networking Project [De Orilla a
Orilla] of the University of Puerto Rico. ORILLAS is I*EARN¹s
newest center.

Below you will find some of our thoughts on the influence
technology has had on our knowledge of the world. We will write
to you in English, our second language.

** How has your knowledge of current world affairs changed as a
result of working in on-line educational projects? **

It has increased my interest in technology.

We are about to received the cultural package from Italy.
I think my knowledge will change from the experience I
will received.

The exchanges through ³Orillas² (From Shore to Shore
Project) have given me motivation and interest in issues
of other countries.

** What have you learned from another student ³either in your
classroom or in the network² as a result of the collaboration
using telecommunication technology? **

I learned that I have the ability to help others and to
learn independently.

It showed me to share ideas, to draw conclusions, and work
with the computers.

By using the network I will learn about different cultures
to understand better.

From the students at :
Escuela Adelaida Vega in Vega Alta,
Escuela Tallaboa Alta in Penuelas,
and other schools participating in the ³English through Cooperative
Learning and Interactive Technology² Project.
