Education 2000 Workshop - St. Catherine, Jamaica

Principals, teachers, parents, students came together in Guys Hill in Jamaica for a two-day workshop under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture and with the support of Dr. Julius Garvey. Remarks were made by Ministers Burchell Whiteman and Phyllis Mitchell, and Chief Education Officer Wesley E. Barrett.

Presentations were made by John Fray, Constance Lynch, and Adriana Vilela and Ed Gragert from I*EARN.

Ministers Whiteman and Mitchell shared their hopes and dreams that educational technology can be placed in the inital pilot schools within a few months and hopefully expanded to new schools in the years ahead.
Workshop participants enjoyed superb lunches and conversations (and we took digital photos of each other!).
Participants gained first-hand experience with computers by writing response messages to teachers in other countries who had sent greetings. Technical assistance was provided by Mr. Dill and his students at the Guys Hill Skills Community Center

Workshop participants took a break after the day's sessions to join in a Jamaican pastimes--dominos and dancing.

Local students, including Alva and Kemar joined us to get a sense of how they too could use technology in their classrooms

Thanks to everyone, including the wonderful I*EARN teachers who sent us messages from around the world. We are inspired to integrate technology in our schools!
