required to have an initial group of participants before being

3. NEW VIDEO
PRODUCED AS PART OF CATALYST
DIGITAL ANIMATION PROJECT. Connect
with students and teachers from Pakistan, Uzbekistan and the USA
who are discussing the crucial role that young people have within
a civil society in times of crisis. As part of the project, participants
are creating animated public service announcements on the topic
of natural disaster preparedness. See a new video of the project and

4. FOUR RIVERS,
ONE WORLD. Join educators and youth in Bangladesh, India,
Nepal and the USA who are collaborating to improve the quality of
rivers in their communities! See an audio soundslide of their
activities here.

5. KINDRED/ORAL
HISTORY PROJECT. A project challenging students to explore
and share their family heritage. Recent stories tell of how the families
of aboriginal students in Australia have been affected over the years
by government policies that separated families. Login to read and respond
to these and other histories posted recently by students in Australia,
Pakistan, Russia, Taiwan, Ukraine, and the USA in the Kindred
Project.

NEGAI CONNECTION PROJECT
VIDEO. See more about Ms. Suwako
Nagata and her work to create a global song of peace in partnership
with iEARN participants all over the world.

7. WORLD
WATER MONITORING DAY KITS AVAILABLE. The kit includes
everything needed to test your waterbody for pH, dissolved oxygen,
temperature and turbidity and is designed to be an accurate,
yet accessible technology for all levels of experience. World
Water Monitoring Day™ is
an international education and outreach program that builds public
awareness and involvement in protecting water resources around the
world by engaging citizens to conduct basic monitoring of their local
water bodies. The month-long program kicks off each year on September
18 with a data entry deadline of December 18.

8. DEVELOPMENT
GATEWAY FOUNDATION PHOTO COMPETITION. Open to all photographers
at least 13 years of age, except employees of the foundation and
their immediate families. We are looking for compelling photographs
of socio-economic development in developing countries. Each entry
must include a written statement explaining how that image is representative
of development. Images will be judged on technical excellence, composition,
overall impact, and artistic merit. Deadline for submitting entries
is September 19, 2008. See here.
9. STUDENTS
IN USA CREATE MANDALAS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SUGAR RUN POWPOW AND
LACONIAN INDIAN HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION. Students at Memorial Middle School
in Laconia, New Hampshire in the USA worked with a Native American
woman from the Black Foot and Sac and Fox tribes to create Mandalas
for donation to the Sugar Run Powwow and Laconian Indian Historical
Association. Their teacher, Larry Frates, has involved his students
in many art projects in iEARN, including the Eye
to Eye Project.

7. iEARN-CANADA
TEACHERS/COUNTRY COORDINATORS TO PRESENT KEYNOTE AT
NECC, JUNE 29 - JULY 2, 2008 IN TEXAS. On July 1, Jim
Carleton and Mali Bickley (iEARN-Canada Coordinators) will share
their experiences "leveraging the collaborative power of
technology to help their students help others worldwide." In
addition, iEARN-USA will co-host the International Reception.
