1. MALARIA NETS PROJECT. Students in three classes at Lowery Freshman Center in Allen, Texas challenged each other to raise money for the malaria nets program in Botswana. The students earned more than $1,500. For the past year, Nancy Hodson (Allen English teacher) and Tommie Hamaluba (Gabarone, Botswana technology teacher) have worked on a classroom cultural connection through the iEARN program. Advanced level freshman English classes read one of a series (Ladies #1 Detective Agency) of books set in Botswana and continue the cultural study of the area by corresponding with students in Gabarone, Botswana. Both teachers (and students) look forward to expanding this cultural exchange in the future. For information on this project see here.

7. JOIN IN DISCUSSIONS ON THE FUTURE OF iEARN -- iEARN in the 21st Century! At the July 2006 iEARN Assembly meeting, the future of iEARN was on the agenda. In the past months we have tried to set-up a process and time path that will allow each and every iEARN-member to contribute our "Future discussions". By iEARN Centre nominations a "Future group" has been created ready to support and process all your input. In the next iEARN NEWS we will share more about the process and future group; the process will be facilitated by Eliane Metni and Bob Cater. iEARN invites all its members to on-line iEARN future discussions, which will take place between May 2 and June 18, 2007. The aim of the discussions is to hear the views and perspectives of iEARN community at large on the future of iEARN, its goals and structure, and its readiness to meet the 21st Century educational needs. The outcome of the on-line discussions will be "fermented" just before the conference and presented as "a green paper" at the 2007 iEARN Assembly, Conference and on-line. Who can join? Globaloria is designed for educators who have computers with high bandwidth internet connectivity for every student and who are looking for engaging ways to take their students to the next level through a process they love, designing their own multimedia games. Globaloria will provide in-kind services and support for 1-2 iEARN educators to do the program, which follows a semester-long curriculum during. Instructors and students need to dedicate 10+ hours of work each week. Visit http://www.worldwideworkshop.org/ to learn about the program requirements.
