1. SIGN UP NOW FOR THE JANUARY-MAY SESSION OF iEARN LEARNING CIRCLES. Learning Circles are highly interactive, project-based partnerships among a small number of schools located throughout the world. Next session runs from January 30, 2009 - May 18, 2009 (15 weeks with a 1-week break in Spring). Learning Circle Placement forms are due on January 15, 2009. 2. REGISTER NOW FOR THE FEBRUARY 23-APRIL 26, 2009 SESSION OF iEARN ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES FOR EDUCATORS. Each course brings together educators from around the world and is designed so that, by the end of nine weeks, you will have outlined how you will use a standards-based iEARN project in your classroom. Courses include: Creative Arts, Language Arts/Writing, Social Studies/Contemporary Affairs/Geography, Science/Environment/Math, Teaching of Foreign and Second Languages, Learning Circles, Moving Voices (making digital documentaries), and PEARL (integrating journalism skills into the classroom). 3. VOLVO ADVENTURE AWARDS. Arranged in collaboration with the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), the Volvo Adventure Award rewards young people who run their own environmental projects. We are now looking for the 2009 winners – and the 31st January 2009 deadline is approaching fast. If you know of any 13-16 year olds working in groups on an environmental project they only have a few weeks to enter. All they have to do is to do is register and enter their project now by visiting http://www.volvoadventure.org and the adventure can begin.
4. ECO GROUP IN OMAN CREATES ENVIRONMENTAL BLOG. Inspired by iEARN and VOLVO Adventures, Environmental Co-Op Group (ECO-Group) has been the first environmental group founded in Oman consisting of teachers and students. Aims: 1- Make people aware of the environment. 2- Share ideas and experience with people around the world in the field of environment & discuss environmental issues. 6. INCLUSIVE LEARNING CIRCLES SURINAME AND THE NETHERLANDS GROW. Based upon the success of the February – May 2008 inclusive Learning Circle by iEARN Netherlands and iEARN Suriname, coordinators Betty Burgos and Bob Hofman managed the collaboration in 2009 to grow to 40+ schools in 3 Dutch language-based Learning Circles. The Global Teenager Project is the umbrella for two Primary/Special needs education Learning Circles and one Learning Circle dedicated for students from lower vocational schools. All Learning Circles will be wiki-based and allow students to include multimedia to enrich their learning. The UTSN project (special twinning program for Surinam and The Netherlands) and the Dutch Ministry of Education support the iEARN/Global Teenager Project Learning Circles project and will fund 25 Dutch teachers to visit Paramaribo in January for professional development, while 20 Surinam teachers and 7 students are invited to visit The Netherlands at the end of the Learning Circles in May 2009 to celebrate the successes.

11. iEARN-ARMENIA OFFERS ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES IN ARMENIAN. Armenia nears completion of two 9-week online professional development courses offered in Armenian on "Educational Standards in Armenia" and "Europe at the School" using the iEARN Moodle course space. 35 teachers from all regions of Armenia took part in the courses.
