1. SIGN UP NOW FOR THE JANUARY-MAY SESSION OF iEARN LEARNING CIRCLES. Learning Circles are highly interactive, project-based partnerships among a small number of schools located throughout the world. Next session runs from January 30, 2009 - May 18, 2009 (15 weeks with a 1-week break in Spring). Learning Circle Placement forms are due on January 15, 2009. 2. REGISTER NOW FOR THE FEBRUARY 23-APRIL 26 SESSION OF iEARN ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES FOR EDUCATORS. Each course brings together educators from around the world and is designed so that, by the end of nine weeks, you will have outlined how you will use a standards-based iEARN project in your classroom. Courses include: Creative Arts, Language Arts/Writing, Social Studies/Contemporary Affairs/Geography, Science/Environment/Math, Teaching of Foreign and Second Languages, Learning Circles, Moving Voices (making digital documentaries), and PEARL (integrating journalism skills into the classroom). 3. JOIN US A PUBLIC ART PROJECT. This project aims for students to gain knowledge and respect for the urban environment, using tools of geographic positioning. It also encourages youth to better understand the relationships between countries in Europe. Ages: 10-18. Language: English. Schedule: February 9-May 15. See: http://www.iearn.cat/publicart.

4. VIDEOCONFERENCE WITH CLASSROOMS AROUND THE WORLD IN 24 HOURS IN MAY. Steve Brooks in the USA writes, "I plan to connect with international classrooms around the world all in a 24 hour time period, using IP, ISDN, Messenger, and Skype connections. This data driven video conference exhange will take place in May 2009 (exact date to be announced) over a 24 hour time period. Interested? Contact Steve Brooks before March 1, 2009.

5. SCHOOL IN MEXICO SEEKING PROJECT PARTNERS. Instituto Blaise Pascale in Oaxaca, Mexico is seeking partners for several iEARN projects, including Food for Thought, My Country, A Vision, One Day in the Life, Students Unlimited, and One World/Our Footprint

6. NEW iEARN-KENYA LOGO. The iEARN-Kenya logo includes a ladder symbol, and a climbing concept. The logo indicates how iEARN inspires members to climb the digital literacy to the highest level, through online broad learning courses. It also symbolizes a mast useful in ICT&IT installation equipment. The green colour is an emphasis on environment conservation, while connectivity is indicated by the red and green figures. 7. iEARN FEATURED IN A TIMES OF INDIA ARTICLE. "Americans get Hindi lessons in Pune," The Times of India, January 6, 2009. From December 26-January 7, a team of U.S. educators travelled to India as part of a Hindi Language Acquisition Program made possible through the U.S. Department of Education’s “Foreign Language Assistance Program.” iEARN-India and iEARN-USA are supporting the Edison School District in New Jersey, USA through coordination of the exchange, and integration of online project work into students' Hindi language learning.

Judy Huynh (USA) and iEARN-India Coordinator, Dr. Sunita Bhagwat, will be doing a workshop in Patna from January 20 - 22, and in Kolkata from January 27 - 29. 9. YouthCaN ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 4-6, 2009 IN NYC, USA. The annual event will be hosted at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, USA. See http://www.youthcanworld.org for details of this and other YouthCaN events happening around the world. YouthCaN is a year-round network within iEARN of students using telecommunications for environmental project work. Join YouthCaN!
