1. REGISTER NOW FOR FEBRUARY 23-APRIL 26 iEARN ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES FOR EDUCATORS. Courses bring together educators from around the world to communicate and plan how to integrate standards-based iEARN projects into various curriculum areas. Courses include: Creative Arts, Language Arts/Writing, Social Studies/Contemporary Affairs/Geography, Science/Environment/Math, Teaching of Foreign and Second Languages, Learning Circles, Moving Voices (making digital documentaries), and PEARL (integrating journalism skills into the classroom). **** ONLINE COURSE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE --> Online course scholarships are available through the Global Connections & Exchange Program (GCE) for educators from Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, China, Iraq, Kenya, Oman, Sierra Leone, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, and Uzbekistan. GCE is made possible through support from the US State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. In addition, online course scholarships are available through the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art for educators from Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, UAE, USA, and Uzbekistan. The mission of the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art is to promote the study and understand of Islamic arts and cultures. Please contact your Country Coordinator for more information.

3. NEW CALLIGRAPHY PROJECT. Participate in iEARN Calligraphic Arts Project to celebrate International Mother Language Day February 21st 2009. 4. EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS IN AFGHANISTAN JOIN iEARN. The iEARN global community has recently grown to include 13 educators/trainers and 538 students in Afghanistan, registered by educators in Jalalabad who are part of the San Diego/Jalalabad project linking the US with Afghanistan through the Global Connections and Exchange Program. In the project's forum - Steps to My Future - students are actively discussing how to move into career positions.

7. MUSIC CLASS IN UTAH, USA SEEKING CLASSROOMS AROUND THE WORLD FOR VIDEO EXCHANGES. Contact Becky Ivory in the USA.

8. EDUCATOR IN THAILAND SEEKING PARTNERS FOR WILDLIFE POSTER PROJECT. From Fidelia Twenge-Jinings Islamic College of Thailand, "I am an English teacher, but I'm also very interested in conservation biology and the effort to protect wildlife around the world from threats and extinction. I am hoping to engage others in a project we have started at my school designed to raise awareness about our precious wildlife through creation of posters that show pictures of animals and tell details about the animal's life." 9. JOIN THE EYE TO EYE ART PROJECT FRIENDSHIP EXHIBITION. Eye to Eye is an ongoing project. The Friendship Exhibition seeks to spotlight the creative energy of our global youth, create an exhibition that will be accessible to the global community which is based on a global theme: HOPE Through the Eyes of Our Youth, and begin two organized Eye To Eye Friendship exhibitions. One will travel the United States and the second will travel to MOROCCO for this years iEARN Conference. 11. CHECK OUT THE DECEMBER ISSUE OF THE iEARN GLOBAL CONNECTIONS AND EXCHANGE NEWSLETTER. 12. STUDENTS -- ENTER THE "INVENT YOUR WORLD" CONTEST! Invent Your World is an international campaign sponsored by the Lemelson Foundation and Ashoka GenV to support young inventors in creating social change. Youth wishing to use new or adapted technology to address global challenges are encouraged to launch a "social venture" and implement their invention. Ashoka GenV will provide mentorship and seed funding to 50 new ventures. In addition, Lemelson and Ashoka will choose the best teams and offer additional support, including a visit to MIT to take part in a global roundtable discussion and $20,000 in scholarships. 13. TeachUNICEF RESOURCES. An education program providing interdisciplinary standards-based lesson plans addressing a range of global issues affecting children. Background information for educators is provided as well as tips to engage students towards action. TeachUNICEF’s quality resources enhance curriculum and facilitate discussions on issues such as poverty, water and sanitation, armed conflict, and child labor. 14. 2009 SIGTel ONLINE LEARNING AWARD COMPETITION SEEKS ENTRIES. Have you and your students been involved or are you involved in an original, online learning activity? If so, enter the 2009 SIGTel Online Learning Award competition! Submit entry at http://www.iste.org/sigtel. Entries need to describe INNOVATIVE online learning activities that will have been completed between 1 February 2008 and 1 June 2009. Deadline to submit is March 31 2009.

18. iEARN WORKSHOPS IN INDIA, JANUARY 20-29, 2009. Judy Huynh (USA) and iEARN-India Coordinator, Dr. Sunita Bhagwat, conducted workshops in Patna from January 20 - 22, and in Kolkata from January 27 - 29. 19. YOUTH JOURNALISM WORKSHOP HOSTED FOR iEARN STUDENTS IN PALESTINE, JANUARY 22, 2009. 22 students from different high schools around the West Bank participated in a journalism training with facilitators from the Ministry of Education and Al Jazeera. 20. MEARN'S (IEARN-MOROCCO) FOURTH NATIONAL FORUM: DAKHLA, MOROCCO, JANUARY 23-28, 2009. This year's forum theme was "Educational Innovation, a Major Pillar of Education and Training Quality." Meet the Moroccan team in the Teachers Forum.

21. GCE/iEARN WORKSHOP IN NAIROBI, KENYA, JANUARY 27-29, 2009. Greet teachers coming together as part of the Global Connections and Exchange Program in Kenya. Farah Kamal, along with the iEARN Kenya Team Angule Gabriele and Grace Mulei, facilitated the workshop. Meet them in the Teachers Forum
