1. HELPING YOUTH SAY NO TO GUN VIOLENCE. This project is trying to eradicate the use of guns among young people. We want others schools around the world to join the 'Student Dialogue Forum' to discuss gun violence. Join the forum now to welcome Sierra Leone teachers and students. http://media.iearn.org/projects/dialogue
2. KINDRED FAMILY HISTORY PROJECT. Students are invited to research events in the lives of members of their family or local community to find the impact of world or local history. Read recent contributions from Ukraine, USA, Australia, Pakistan, and Russia. http://media.iearn.org/projects/kindred
3. ELECTRONIC SCHOOL MAGAZINE PROJECT. Join classes in Oman, Morocco, Palestine, and the USA sharing their school newspapers in the E-Magazine Forum. http://media.iearn.org/projects/emagazine
4. CONNECTING MATH TO OUR LIVES THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY. A new activity in the Connecting Math to Our Lives project to share images, collages, drawings, and photographs related to math. The activity was proposed by a class in Kenya, and a class in UAE has recently joined. Interested? 5. CLASSES AROUND THE WORLD CREATE SOLAR COOKERS. A "Global Learning Class" at Pasco Middle School in Florida, USA created their own solar ovens, and held a bake sale and a penny drive in order to raise money to buy solar ovens for refugees in Chad. 6. HELLO iEARN FOOD LOVERS! A very interesting, creative, wonderful group of adult students (around 20 years old) from Moldova are looking for a partner for the Food for Thought Project! We have a blog which http://dvmunca.blogspot.com/ we are going to use as a means of communication with you! 7. PEARL ONLINE JOURNALISM FESTIVAL. Secondary school students from all over the world are invited to participate in our first online journalism festival in April 2009! 8. iEARN SCHOOLS AROUND THE WORLD FLY KITES FOR PEACE. Students from Belarus, Canada, Slovenia, Israel, Mexico, USA and more are participating in kite-flying exhibitions this month, and in upcoming months -- as part of a tradition of flying kites with personal and group images of peace. 9. iEARN SIGNS MOU WITH ELLUMINATE, INC. The agreement will make 2 VClasses available to support communication and educational programs as well as special events for the iEARN network. Each VClass can accommodate 25 users. The VClasses will be available until 15/02/2010. Moderators of sessions will be required to to attend free, public training sessions hosted by Elluminate.
10. iEARN SCHOOL IN THE USA WINS GOLDMAN SACHS AWARD. The award for Excellence in International Educaiton in the Elementary/Middle school category went to the Independence Charter School in Pennsylvania. Part of their international work named in the award was engagement in iEARN projects in the 4th and 5th grades. 11. ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHER RESOURCE FEATURES iEARN CLASSES IN EGYPT AND THAILAND. From the Office of English Language Programs, Shaping the Way We Teach English, is a 14-module teacher training video series developed and produced in cooperation with the University of Oregon in the USA. The series incorporates classroom scenes from around the world and is accompanied by a teacher trainer manual and additional readings. "Module 03, Integrating Skills," Segment 2 features classes in Egypt and Thailand active in the iEARN Good Deeds Project and Teddy Bear Project. "Shaping the Way We Teach English is produced for overseas use and is available outside the United States only. 12. 2009 SIGtel ONLINE LEARNING AWARD COMPETITION. Have you and your students been involved in an original, online learning activity? If so, we encourage you to enter the 2009 SIGtel Online Learning Award competition. Deadline April 4, 2009. Submit entry at http://www.iste.org/sigtel
13. PARTICIPATE IN XPERIMANIA FOR A CHANCE TO WIN SCIENCE RESOURCES. Is your classroom or school lab lacking electronic or scientific equipment? Take part in the Xperimania (www.xperimania.net) science competition - the winning schools from across Europe will be awarded with funds for scientific resources. Besides, each of the winning students will receive a media player. The competition is open for secondary school students aged 10-20 years old from the European Union, candidate countries and EFTA countries. 14. CALL FOR ENTRIES: 2009 MY HERO SHORT FILM FESTIVAL. The deadline for submissions is June 1st, 2009, for short films (ten minutes and under) that celebrate heroes from around the world. MY HERO is also proud to announce two special awards: The Ron Kovic Peacemaker Award, for the film that best addresses the issue of peace; and the Dan Eldon Activist Award, for the film which addresses the theme of activism. The My Hero Short Film Festival is a unique opportunity to showcase your work to a wide global audience. All work needs to be appropriate for children, original, and ten minutes or under on the theme of heroes and heroism. http://myhero.com/filmfestival Please note! 15. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION ONLINE TOOLS. "Kindersite." (http://www.kindersite.org) is a website with resources, games, activities for students aged 2-7. It is looking for a place where teachers and students might interact after/while using these activities in their classrooms. Are you familiar with these activities? Do they look useful?
