1. JOIN
THE NEXT SESSION OF iEARN LEARNING CIRCLES! Register now for the September
30, 2009 - January 11, 2010 Session of Learning Circles (15 weeks with a 1-week
break in December). Learning Circles are highly interactive, project-based
partnerships among a small number of schools located throughout the world.

two sessions each year, September - January and January - May. Learning Circle
Placement forms are due September 15, 2009. All interested participants should
fill out an online iEARN Learning Circle placement form at http://media.iearn.org/coursereglc.
If you have questions about Learning Circles please check our Frequently
Asked Questions at http://iearn.org/circles/fqs.html.
After you fill out an online registration, you will be contacted on or around
September 15th with more information on how to finalize your registration and
confirm your project choice and placement.
2. ATLAS
OF DIVERSITY. An innovative educational tool made of a net of schools
that, thanks to mutual cooperation, has created one of the most important and
thorough databases about cultural diversity in the world. It is a site that
aims at collecting the characteristics of each place starting from the criteria
and the subjective vision of the participants. Deadline for submitting for
the next session is on September 20th!!! Ages: 8 to 17 Languages: Spanish,
Catalan and Portuguese. (opening into English or French). For more information

3. INTERNATIONAL
INTERCULTURAL MURAL EXCHANGE. After exchanging knowledge
and opinions online on a common theme, students create one mural in collaboration
with their partner class by drawing half by half.
4. TOGETHER
WITH BIRDS. Participants research information about the
birds of their community through birdwatching and share their findings
with each other.
5. SPANISH TEACHER
SEEKING FELLOW SPANISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS FOR PROJECT. "My
idea is to contact another Spanish teacher who can join our class in developing
it. Students will make a photo-story, or make a movie, or use any other tech
source to show how they carried out the project i.e. write messages in complete
Spanish for students of the future telling them about important events that
are happening in their country , how advanced technology is, what teenagers
do now in 2009/2010, what clothes they wear, how they spend their time, etc.

6. FEEDING
MINDS, FIGHTING HUNGER ACTIVITIES. Participants in NYC, including NYC facilitator, Lynn Rosen,
will be staging a rally to "Honk Against
Global Hunger" at 5 PM EST on October 16 on the Brooklyn Bridge. In addition,
Lynn (USA) and Mostafa (Iran) will be holding an online (live) course about "Global
Hunger" on the Elluminate platform. This free online course will begin
September 14 and runs for 4 weeks (Online meetings are once per week). To enroll
in this course or get more information, contact Lynn Rosen in the USA.
7. INTERESTED IN
ENCOURAGING YOUNG WOMEN TO GO INTO ICT/TECHNOLOGY CAREERS? A project
to investigate the reasons behind the low participation of women in ICT
and also to devise ways of increasing their representation in ICT careers.

8. NEW EARLY
PEOPLES' SYMBOLS PROJECT WELCOMES NEW PARTICIPANTS. This inclusive
project is for all students, and we encourage schools with students who have
disabilities and handicaps to participate to work in small collaborative groups
to research cultural symbols by using the Internet, local historical records,
cultural books from the library, art books, and artifacts such as rugs, walls,
ceilings, or floor drawings, pictographs in their communities and to briefly
tell the story related to the symbol using journals, PowerPoint Presentations,
videos or digital photos of the artifact, and create a drawing of the symbol.
Upon completion of the research, artwork findings should be shared in the project
forum.
9. NEW iEARN TEACHER
SEEKING PARTNERS FOR SCIENCE AND MEDICINE PROJECTS. "Hello!
I teach Human Anatomy and Physiology to students in grades 10-12 (ages 15 to
18 yrs. old). I am also a graduate student at Thomas Jefferson Hospital/University
in Philadelphia, PA (USA); studying for a Biomedical Science/ Clinical Microbiology
doctorate. I am looking for projects or other classrooms to collaborate on
worldwide Biomedical issues, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!" Class

10. REGISTER NOW
FOR THE HOLIDAY CARD EXCHANGE. Teachers and students prepare an
envelope with holiday cards to send to the other participants prior to
Christmas. Students that do not celebrate Christmas are encouraged to join
the project. The project may be called the Greeting card exchange and students
would send Chinese New Year, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Eid greeting cards. Each
school will be placed in a group with approximately seven other schools
and will prepare either handmade or purchased cards (decorations may be
included) to send to each of the other schools. Facilitated by Judy Barr

11. WANT TO IMPROVE
THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN YOUR CITY? JOIN THE "MY CITY
AND ME" PROJECT. A project to help youth learn how to improve
life in the place they live, and become active members of their community.
12. PLANETARY NOTIONS
ENVIRONMENTAL MAGAZINE ACTIVITIES. This year, the magazine will
be focusing on two main aims: working on monthly themes, and creating an
annual environmental magazine. In September, the theme of the project is:

13. HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENTS IN OAXACA, MEXICO SEEKING INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS. Students
will be enrolled in two different iEARN-based courses that easily fit in
any number of iEARN projects. The first course focuses on identity as it
relates to national, regional, and cultural differences. They will study
Pakistan, India, Rwanda, France, and the US, and eagerly seek perspectives
from students of these countries. The other course deals with international
water management and preservation, with sections on the Nile River and
the Rio Grand River. In this case, we are looking for partners from any
of the ten countries linked to the Nile River and then from the US, in
particular schools from the Rio Grande region. Please contact: Richard

14. REGISTER NOW
FOR THE NEXT SESSION OF iEARN ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES FOR
EDUCATORS. iEARN courses bring together participants from around
the world - the next session will run from September 28-November 29, 2009.
Each course is designed so that by the end of nine weeks you will have outlined
how you will use a standards-based iEARN project in your classroom. Courses
include: Creative Arts; Language Arts/Writing; Social Studies/Contemporary
Affairs/Geography; Science, Technology and Math; Teaching of Foreign and Second
Languages; and Learning Circles. The enrollment deadline is September 10th.

Online course scholarships are available through the Doris Duke Foundation
for Islamic Art for educators from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine,
Pakistan, UAE, USA, and Uzbekistan. The mission of the Doris Duke Foundation
for Islamic Art is to promote the study and understanding of Islamic arts and

15. iEARN-USA AND
iEARN-ARGENTINA (TELAR) PARTNER WITH THE OAS (ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN
STATES) TO PROVIDE ONLINE COURSES FOR TEACHER EDUCATORS IN CARIBBEAN AND
LATIN AMERICA. Based
on highly-evaluated pilot online courses earlier in 2009, iEARN is expanding
the number teacher educators at universities throughout the Caribbean and
Latin America who will learn how to integrate ICTs and Web 2.0 tools in their
classes for future teachers. Based on the success of these courses, the Ministries
of Education in several countries are exploring how the courses could be
implemented throughout their countries. The courses are using the Moodle

SHORT FILM FESTIVAL EXTENDS SUBMISSION DEADLINE. Films
will be accepted until October 1st, 2009. MY HERO is a not-for-profit dedicated
to celebrating the best of humanity, and our short film festival showcases
movies about heroes and heroism. Each film must be ten minutes or under. Visit

film. Prizes include equipment, cash, and software. This year, we also feature
