iEARN in Action! January 8, 2001
iEARN SELECTED
TO CONDUCT HISTORIC US-CHINA YOUTH EXCHANGE INITATIVE! Last
month, in December, iEARN-USA and iEARN-China launched a historic
Internet-supported school-to-school partnership project. The U.S.-China
Youth Exchange Initiative is supported by the Bureau of Educational
and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. The initiative
will begin with two high schools in the long-time sister cities of
Phoenix, Arizona and Chengdu, China. iEARN support enables the "sister"
schools to engage in Internet-based collaborative learning and three-week,
reciprocal group exchanges. A focus of the exchanges will be increasing
student participation in community affairs. iEARN will also conduct
a competition to solicit additional 25 school partnerships with the
future goal of supporting the online and physical exchange of hundreds
of U.S. and Chinese students and teachers each year. Partnering with
iEARN-USA and iEARN-China for this project are Sister Cities International,
Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries,
and Schools Online. See http://www.iearn.org/china/exchange
for more information.
