LOCAL BIRDS PROJECT.
Join students in Pakistan, the USA and around the world in discussing
birds of various local habitats. Students in Miami wrote recently
that they are watching back yard birds at school and at their homes.
Due to recent construction, many of the birds and animals seem to
have vacated the garden perhaps because of noise, storage of materials,
cars and other human activity disturbing this area. They are interested
in how other schools are encouraging respect and enjoyment of birds
as well as how to encourage native species to return to a location.
See and/or write directly the project facilitators
Shahina Ali Raza and Shahina Perveen in Pakistan.

"LAWS OF LIFE"
ANNOUNCES TWO SMALL GRANT COMPETITIONS. -The Laws of Life project
has been an ongoing essay project funded by the US Organization, the
Templeton Foundation since 1999. This year we are seeking proposals
for the creation of regional 'Laws of Life Centers'. These small grants
are open to anyone in the world to apply for ONE TIME seed money (up
to $1500) with which they will establish the capacity to continue
promoting project in the future. To apply please submit one or two
pages describing the institution that will be responsible for the
center, a proposed budget and description of how the funds will be
used, and most importantly, how the center will remain sustainable
and keep the project alive after this year. The criteria for selection
will include: * a demonstrated commitment to the objectives of the
Laws of Life project. * partnerships with other local institutions
who will help support the goals of the project. * additional sources
of funding to keep the center in place after this year (i.e., matching
grants). * a potential for regional outreach. * financial need and
a resourceful budget. Deadline for submission will be March 31. -As
in the past, the LOL project will culminate in the publication of
a multilingual essay compilation book. However, we are also offering
funding to any countries/regions/languages that collect more than
150 essays. For example, if the total amount of essays submitted in
the Spanish language from any number of countries exceeds 150, we
will offer funds to anyone who will coordinate the compilation, printing
and distribution of a small book entirely in Spanish. Similarly, if
there is a certain country or group of countries that would like to
compile their essays into a local publication, we will consider funding
these efforts provided the total amount of essays exceeds 150. The
deadline for proposal requests is June 1. See http://www.iearn.org/projects/lawsoflife.html
and or contact Sarah Lucas for more information.
