Online Teacher Training

Next course session: September 28-November 29, 2009

*Enrollment deadline: September 10th, 2009

Connect with Your Peers Online and Globalize Your Classroom.

With support from the Longview Foundation and Copen Family Fund, iEARN's first online  professional development courses were completed in November 2001 and have become  a model for online teacher training in global education.

To date thousands of teachers from 80 countries have been trained through iEARN online courses

Getting Started

One of the challenges a newcomer to iEARN faces is the size and scope of the organization. Amidst all of the people and projects, where does one begin? This Professional Development course has provided me with a good place to begin. 'Larry Danielson, Canada'

Improve your technology and teaching skills

'This [online]course was a fabulous chance to explore, develop and expand my technical skills through an interactive class while collaborating with other teachers from all over the globe. I would say the most valuable reward has been watching the middle school students that I teach interacting with and learning first-hand from peers all over the world' Margaret Mahoney, USA

Bridge the Digital Divide

'iEARN is providing us a window through which we can not only see others but be seen by others as well.' Lockias Chitanana, Zimbabwe

Working Collaboratively with you peers around the world

'Before this course I had been conducting projects for my students but I always felt frustrated due to the barriers that we had shared. Now I feel very confident and have a strong understanding of PBL.
I had attended many courses from different institutes but the beauty of this course was the variety of ideas and contextual variation. It was really a healthy experience to know how people in different parts of the world work and how they resolve their issues. It gives a feeling that wherever you are all teachers have somewhat same kind of concerns and issues. Now I feel myself connected to the whole world.'
Urooj Zaheer, Pakistan

How does an iEARN online course work?

The goal of the online course is for you to select and integrate one of these standards-based collaborative projects into your classroom.

The course is asynchronous. This means participants work in their own time from home or school to complete weekly assignments. However, courses are very interactive and communication is continuous during the course period. Each course has 25 participants and two facilitators. You will communicate with one another through the iEARN discussion forums to discuss assignment and readings. You can expect frequent feedback from your facilitators and participants throughout the course period.

Each course is divided into eight modules (one lesson per week) with readings, discussions, individual and group assignments. Lessons and assignments take participants step-by-step through the process of integrating an online collaborative project into their classroom. Participants will select a project that matches their state/national standards and begin integrating the project into their classroom during the course period.

You can expect to commit 4-5 hours a week for a course.

Participants who successfully complete all the course requirements will receive a certificate from iEARN-USA with recognition as an iEARN Master Teacher
