Waterways: Local to Global Water Habitats and Resources

This project is designed to provide opportunities for students to learn from, encourage and inspire one another to be actively engaged in restoring and preserving water habitats and resources through scientific knowledge and collaborative action, and to integrate literacy and communication with environmental science learning and action.

1. Each participating school, class, or organization makes regular observations over time of a local water habitat or water resource which are then shared online with the other participants through email and websites to include written text and scientific data and, if possible, include digital images drawings and artwork about the habitat site or resource.

2. As observations are made, students can share changes in the habitats or resources as well as communicate needs for action to restore, preserve or sustain the habitat or resource. Students can collaborate online on ideas for taking action and are encouraged to be involved with their local community to identify and carry out service learning collaborative efforts on behalf of the water habitats and resources.

3. The project coordinator will post observations and service learning action projects on local water habitats and resources and service learning projects with water habitats and resources on her classroom website.
