          Secondary School Partnership Program Between Belarus and USA

iEARN is conducting a Secondary School Exchange Program among two Belorussian schools and two U.S. Schools.  The funding for this program is provided by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State.  The program includes on-line collaboration among students and physical student and educator exchanges.  Students will actively participate in YouthCaN and the publication of an environmental student periodical, Planetary Notions.  Four schools are involved in 2001-2002:  The International Preparatory School, Cleveland, Ohio and Frederick Douglass Academy, New York Cityin the U.S.; School-Lyceum #1, Grodno, and Gymnasium #11, Minsk.

The goals of this program are:

•  To increase awareness of waste management "best practices" in the U.S., NIS, and other regions of the world.
•  To increase on-line communication between U.S. and Belorussian students about critical environmental and community issues.
•  To facilitate development of practical skills in waste management among U.S. and NIS students.
•  To facilitate physical exchanges of teachers, students and other professionals between diverse communities in   Belarus and the United States.
• To broaden community participation in U.S. and NIS Schools.
