iEARN-Lebanon's second YouthCaN Med conference held on May 5, 2003 was a great success. A delegation of two Egyptian students and their teacher participated in the event and presented their research on the management of water resources in Egypt and an award winning website they created to raise global awareness about pollution. Four hundred Lebanese students from 18 public and private schools presented 26 projects.
YouthCaN Med 2003 - Beirut, Lebanon
The event was co-sponsored by the US Embassy in Beirut, USAID, Hariri Foundation and the Youssef Kamel Cultural Center (Nabatieh) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Environment. MP Hariri discussed environmental issues with participating students.

Students were elated when MP. Bahia El Hariri and Mr. Vincent Battle, Ambassador of the United States attended their workshops and engaged in discussions. Having the support of Bahia Hariri, well-known member of the Lebanese Parliament, to expand iEARN and YouthCaN projects in all schools with community support was a big achievement. Yassine Jaber, former Minister of Economy and Trade, provided important support. Hosting the Egypt delegation turned out to be fantastic. They had very positive contact with our students.
It was good that our students also had the chance to interact via video-conferencing with US students at the YouthCaN event at the Museum of Natural History in New York City (photo below). And it was particularly special to discuss the environmental issues with the teachers in NYC who were from Morocco, India, Lebanon--who were there to participate in the CIVICS IV workshop.

Students took leadership roles in the YouthCaN Med event.

A special thanks to Candace Putnam for her help with the video-conference and continous support for iEARN-Lebanon.
