Educators in Tunisia Gather for a Screening and Discussion on "Girl Rising"

On January 15, 2016, the Tunisian Education and Resource Network (TEARN) organized a joint cultural event with the U.S. Embassy in Tunis to screen and debating the inspiring film "Girl Rising" to an audience of teachers from various parts of the country.

During the event, educators discussed the importance of empowering girls and reviewed the fourth UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) that aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. In the iEARN Girls Rising project, classes around the world watch and discuss the stories in the film in interactive project forums.

The event also paid tribute to Chris Stevens, the late Ambassador to Libya, as TEARN offered the American Embassy a frame of Christopher Stevens that was handed to Cultural Affairs Officer Gregory McElwein. Since 2012, TEARN has connected schools in Tunisia with schools across the Middle East and North Africa and the U.S. through online, global exchange projects through the Chris Stevens Youth Network.

Check out TEARN's facebook page for more photos of the event.
