iEARN-Pakistan hosts Journalism 2.0 Program Workshop, February 9-10

The Express Tribune supported a group of 16 students and 4 teachers from four iEARN schools gathered at the iEARN Centre Karachi for a 2-day journalism training on 9th and 10th of February 2012. This training was a part of the Global Connections and Exchange (GCE): Journalism 2.0 Program.

During the 2-day training, participants were introduced to basic principles of journalism. They learned about effective reporting techniques, the role of technology in journalism, photojournalism, the scope of media in Pakistan, and media values and ethics.

The Tribune team, comprised of Zainab Imam, Senior Sub-editor (web desk), Atika Rehman, Sub-editor (Web desk) and Zehra Abid, Senior Subeditor (National desk), provided training to students and give them professional tips. Students and teachers were engaged in interesting hands-on activities for effective learning.  Besides that, they also got trained for using the iEARN Collaboration Centre.

Mr. Firuz Baratov, iEARN Representative from Tajikistan, also visited Pakistan to observe this training.  The workshop participants are expected to disseminate their learning to other students and carry out Journalism activities in their schools.

The Global Connections and Exchange Program is a two-year initiative, funded by the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State, that focuses on developing skills in journalism and media among high school students in Ecuador, Pakistan, Tajikistan Thailand, and the USA by examining the national elections that will occur in these countries in 2012-2013.  Read more about the Global Connections and Exchange Program on iEARN-USA's website.
