iEARN-Tunisia hosts Chris Stevens Youth Network workshop

On November 10, the Tunisian Education and Resource Network (TEARN) hosted a workshop for high school teachers participating in the Chris Stevens Youth Network. During the workshop, experienced teachers Nawrez and Nour gave presentations to the participants about their collaborative projects and advice for how to get started.

Teachers worked on project planning activities together and explored the iEARN Collaboration Centre to connect with other teachers around the world.

TEARN Coordinator Hela Nafti reflected on the workshop and her experience with CSYN:

iEARN is indeed a great community and conducting a workshop is always a significant experience. Teachers come to the workshop with doubts about improving their classroom habits. They think it would be hard to motivate their students. The presentation of Project-based learning first helps them acquire new knowledge and appreciation. Then, they are introduced to iEARN website and the Collaboration Center. After a while and when they are asked to register and log onto the projects, you would see satisfaction on their faces. They start asking questions, they take notes and they voice their enthusiasm about the new skill they have acquired, the new strategies they would take away with them to try out. And hopefully, they would start online projects for a quality education.

My experience with iEARN is quite a long one, but my satisfaction comes most from the community we have built in Tunisia and the great skills of professionalism TEARN teachers can be proud of. Tunisia is going through a new era, building democracy and writing a new page in history. TEARN community is part of this national project, they are dedicated, they work hard and they believe that quality education takes its roots in a pedagogy that is learner-centered and that brings the real world in the classroom, they help learners become active citizens, leaders in a highly competitive world and they help them acquire cross-cultural skills.
